In the early hours of May 3, a significant fire broke out at the Dewan Devdi market in Hyderabad’s historic Pathergatti area. 🕒 Time of Incident
The blaze ignited around 1:30 AM, with the fire department receiving the alert at approximately 2:15 AM.
🔥 Cause of Fire
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit on the second floor of the G+3 commercial complex.
🏬 Extent of Damage
The fire originated in a textile shop on the fourth floor and rapidly spread to adjacent shops, impacting the third floor as well.
Over 50 shops were gutted, primarily those dealing in textiles and garments.
The presence of highly combustible materials like clothing, bed sheets, and carpets fueled the fire, causing extensive property damage estimated to be worth crores of rupees.

Approximately 15 fire tenders from various fire stations across Hyderabad were deployed to control the blaze.
Firefighting operations lasted nearly 18 hours, with the fire being brought under control by 8:00 PM on Monday.
Firefighters faced challenges due to narrow lanes and the dense commercial setup, which hindered the deployment of additional fire engines.
👥 Casualties and Evacuations
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
Firefighters successfully evacuated a family of five security personnel and relocated 15 residents to a secure location to prevent any mishaps.

The building lacked proper fire safety measures, including external staircases for emergency evacuation.
The Disaster Response Force inspected the building, and a decision on resuming business activities was to be taken after a detailed inspection.
